Almond Cake

1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. baking powder
4 c. flour
1 lb. almond paste
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. almond extract (plus a
little water, if necessary)

Blend together sugar and eggs. Add almond extract,
baking powder and 4 cups flour to make dough. Put half of
crust dough in greased 9 x 13-inch pan, indenting 1-inch from
edge of pan. Other half goes on top of filling, also indented.
Mix almond paste, sugar, egg, almond extract and a
little water, if needed, to make filling. Put filling over
bottom crust, indenting it also. Add top crust, the cake will
"grow" to edges. Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes. Cover with waxed paper and towel while cooling.
