Steamed Cabbage and Sausage Recipe

1/2 large head cabbage, cut into large chunks
4-6 large carrots cut into large chunks
4 med. potatoes, cut into large chunks
1 large onion, cut into large chunks
1 lb. or more smoked sausage, cut into large pieces

In a steamer basket of a large stewpot or saucepan, layer the cabbage, carrots, potatoes, onion, and sausage. (You can use lite smoked sausage to cut down on fat if you prefer.) Put about 1 cup water into bottom of steamer. ;INSERT steamer basket; add salt and pepper of you like. Cover and let steam for about 20-30 minutes, or until vegetables are tender. Check to see if more water is needed about half-way through cooking time. Serve with cornbread.
Serves 4 to 6.
