Cornmeal Pancakes

1 cup corn meal
1 1/4 cups milk
1 egg
2 Tablespoons soft shortening or oil
1 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
flour

Combine corn meal, sugar, brown sugar, baking powder and baking soda; mix well. Add milk, egg and shortening or oil. Batter will be thin, so add flour a little at a time, blending well, until desired consistency is reached. Pour batter onto griddle. Fry until done on both sides.
