Country Ham Casserole

2 cups thinly sliced potatoes
salt
freshly ground pepper
1 large onion, sliced thin
2 teaspoons dried thyme, crumbled
1 thick slice ham, trimmed, 1 1/2 to 2 pounds
2 cups milk

Preheat the oven to 350F. butter a 1 1/2 quart covered casserole. Cover the bottom of the casserole with the potatoes and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Spread the onions on top and scatter with thyme. Lay the ham slice over the onions, pour on the milk; cover, and bake for about 1 hour, or until the potatoes are tender. Serves 4.
